• As you are now aware, an organization called Riverbend is planning on opening a facility located at 11 Kingsbury Ave in Haverhill. This facility will be a men’s only residential treatment program. It will house 24 men “with both a substance use disorder and moderate to severe mental health disorder”.

This organization purchased a former single family home and will now be housing 24 un-related individuals. They did this with ZERO input from the surrounding community and ZERO contact with the city of Haverhill. This beautiful, safe, residential neighborhood should not stand for this!

This website will serve as a place to share information regarding this misguided and secretive housing project. It is also a call to action – contact your local representatives to voice your concerns, be vigilant, and report any suspicious activity. I will attempt to update frequently with more information as it becomes available.

Anyone with helpful information or who would like to get in touch should reach out to stoptheriverbendhouse@gmail.com.

  • Here is a link to a 2024 story about a sister property that Riverbend runs:
    https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/man-accused-of-stabbing-roommate-at-tewksbury-hospital-held-without-bail/3285237/

Riverbend used to be known as “Lowell House” and changed their name shortly after this incident. A man was stabbed at the facility by another resident. The perp then took off through the surrounding neighborhood and hid in backyards for 12 hours. This will soon be your backyard.

  • Below is the admission criteria directly from the application on the Riverbend website:

On the Riverbend website, they specifically refer to their programs being located in “specialized healthcare facilities”:

This does not appear to be just a place for people who are getting off drugs. Riverbend is actively looking for people with who require the highest level of care. Housing 24 individuals who were recently released from a psychiatric hospital or were unable to succeed in other treaments all together certainly seems like a recipe for disaster. How is it possible that this is allowed to occur in the middle of a neighborhood?
